Video Does Not Show West Bengal Minister Hoisting BJP Flag On Independence Day
BOOM found that the video was recorded on July 6, 2026, when Singh hoisted the party flag in front of his Barrackpore office.

A cropped video of Arjun Singh, Minister-in-Charge of the Department of Labour and Transport, Government of West Bengal, is being shared online with the false claim that it shows Singh hoisting his party’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) flag instead of the national flag during the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, 2026.
BOOM found that the video was recorded on July 6, 2026, when Singh took part in the inauguration of his Barrackpore office on the occasion of the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee.
In the 18-second-long video, Singh can be seen hoisting the BJP flag in front of his office in Barrackpore, West Bengal.
The Claim
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) posted the video on its official Facebook page with a Hindi caption that translates to, "What greater insult to the national flag, the Tricolour, could there be on Independence Day than BJP supporters giving more importance to the BJP flag instead of the Tricolour? If this is not treason, then what is? Before Independence Day, these BJP supporters were organising “Har Ghar Tiranga” and “Tiranga Yatra” campaigns. Yet, on Independence Day, they deliberately insulted the Tricolour, thereby insulting the freedom fighters and the country itself."
