Video Of Pro-Modi Slogans In Maldives Falsely Shared As Nepal

A video of people gathered on a street chanting 'Narendra Modi Zindabad' is being shared online with the false claim that it shows people in Nepal voicing support for the Indian prime minister.

BOOM found that the video is from Maldives when PM Modi visited in July this year.

Nepal was rocked by anti-government protests this week that was triggered by a ban on social media platforms, which quickly turned into a larger movement led by Gen-Z protesters to voice their anger over systemic corruption and high levels of unemployment.The protests led to vandalism of the parliament and supreme court, along with the ouster of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and other ministers. An interim government has now been formed under the leadership of Sushila Karki, the country’s former chief justice.

The Claim

On Instagram, several users posted the video with the Hindi caption, "See how sloganeering of Modi ji Zindabad is happening in Nepal."

What We Found: Video Is From Maldives, Not Nepal

1. News Report About The Video: BOOM broke the video into keyframes and ran a reverse image search using Google Lens. The search led to a video report by the Indian Express published on July 25, 2025, which stated that the incident took place in Maldives during PM Modi’s visit.

The report states, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a rousing welcome in Malé as chants of “Narendra Modi Zindabad” filled the air. Supporters lined the streets of the Maldivian capital to greet the Indian leader during his official visit, underscoring the growing goodwill between India and the Maldives. This visit highlights New Delhi’s commitment to its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and strengthens bilateral ties through health, security, and strategic cooperation."

The video was also uploaded on the same day by NEWS ON AIR OFFICIAL’s official YouTube channel.

2. PM Modi's Visit To Maldives: On July 25, 2025, PM Modi met President Mohamed Muizzu at the President’s Office in Malé. During the visit, he was also given a ceremonial welcome at Republic Square.
