Nepal Protests: Video From Sikkim Peddled As Pro-India Rally

A video showing a group of people walking in a rally with the Indian national flag and chanting ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ is being falsely shared as a recent pro-India rally in Nepal.

The clip went viral after violent protests by Gen-Z led to the collapse of Nepal’s government over corruption allegations against politicians.

BOOM found that the video is not from Nepal. The footage was recorded in Sikkim during a rally attended by the state’s Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) on the eve of country’s Independence Day celebration.

      The Claim

Several verified users on X shared the video with a Hindi caption that translates to, “A very big auspicious coincidence is taking shape. Very soon, good news will be received. Now, the call for India’s Hindu nation is coming from Nepal.”

What We Found: Video Is From Sikkim

      1. Posts From August 2025: We broke the video into keyframes and found the same visuals on social media posts from August 2025, that mentioned the location as Sikkim. A clearer version of the footage also can be found online, where one of the participants could be identified as Sikkim’s Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay).

      2. Sikkim CM’s Post About Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign: On checking Tamag’s verified Facebook page, we found that he had posted about his participation in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign on August 12, 2025. Tamang wrote that along with his cabinet colleagues, MLAs, advisors, the Chief Secretary, and other officials, he joined the rally held on the eve of Independence Day. The campaign was part of an initiative launched by the central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The rally was held from MG Marg to Manan Kendra in the state capital, Gangtok. Here’s a comparison between frames from the viral video and a photo shared by Tamang on August 12, 2025.
