A video from Bangladesh showing uniformed security personnel heckling a man has been shared with a misleading claim that it shows Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in action in poll-bound West Bengal.
BOOM found that the video shows a protest over the killing of Bangladeshi activist Sharif Osman Hadi.
The Claim
The video was shared with a Hindi caption that translates to, "The atmosphere has changed with the entry of CRPF in Bengal. The goons are being dug out from the ground. No more talks, straight-up tough action has begun. In Bengal, no more Bhai rule, only Hindu rule will prevail."

What We Found: Video Is From Bangladesh
1. Video From Bangladesh Protest: We first broke the video into keyframes and conducted a reverse image search using Google Lens. The search led us to a report published by a local Bangladeshi outlet, Dainik Lokaloy, on January 11, 2026, which carried screengrabs from the viral video. The report stated that the visuals are from a protest that took place in Bangladesh’s Panchagarh area, demanding justice for the killing of activist Sharif Osman Hadi.
Taking a cue, we ran a related keyword search and found the same video, carrying the logo of Bangladeshi outlet News 21 Bangla TV, uploaded on January 11, 2026, corroborating the same information.
2. News Report About the Protest: On January 11, 2026, Bangladeshi outlet Prothom Alo covered the protest, reporting injuries to at least 26 people. The report stated that a protest march began from Mokbular Rahman Government College in Panchagarh under the banner of “pro-Bangladesh students,” demanding the implementation of a four-point agenda announced by the Inquilab Mancha, including justice for the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi.
It added that the protesters were dispersed after Bangladeshi army personnel baton-charged them as they blocked the Panchagarh-Dhaka highway at Chowrangi Mor. Another video report of the incident can be seen below.
Sharif Osman Hadi, known for his criticism of India, was shot in an assassination attempt in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and died of his injuries on December 18, 2025. His death was followed by widespread violence across the country, escalating political tensions in the region.
