A video of a Muslim man chopping off hair of two women tied in shackles in Bangladesh has surfaced with false communal claims on X that the women are Hindus.
BOOM found they are Muslims and their hair was being chopped off as a punishment for alleged accusations of stealing.

What We Found:
1) Incident of Theft:
The three women in the viral video were identified as Sumaiya Akter, Eti Akter, and Sharmin Akter.
They were assaulted, and their hair was chopped off on the allegation of stealing gold ornaments from the house of a businessman named Selim Bhuiyan.
BOOM ran a reverse image search on the keyframes of the video and found that the incident happened in Rupganj, Narayanganj, in Bangladesh on March 2, 2026.
Disturbing visuals of the three women being tied and slapped after their hair was forcefully chopped off also surfaced on social media.
The man seen chopping the hair off the women later told news reporters that the women were caught while they were running away after snatching a gold chain from his wife.
According to police officer Mehedi, the three women were taken into police custody for alleged theft, while action was expected to be taken against people who attacked them.
