A video of an explosion at a fireworks factory in Malta is being falsely shared on social media as footage of an Iranian attack on a US airbase in Kuwait.
BOOM found that the video is from a blast at the Ta' Lourdes fireworks factory in Naxxar, Malta on June 1.
On July 12, Iran launched missile attacks on United States military sites in Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, and Qatar as retaliation for US attacks on 140 military targets across Iran.
The Claim:
The 6-second video is being shared on social media with the claim that Iranian media confirmed the destruction caused by an attack on a US Airbase in Kuwait.
What We Found:
1) Video from Fireworks Factory Blast in Malta
A reverse image search led us to the original video posted by Al Jazeera on June 1 about an explosion at a Malta fireworks factory leading to two injuries and damage in the surrounding areas.
2) Local Media Reports Confirm Explosion Details
A keyword search returned local Maltese news outlets reporting that no workers were present in the factory during the explosion at Ta' Lourdes fireworks factory, but two workers on a nearby farm suffered injuries.
