Video Of Delhi DCP Quitting Over Framing CJP Protesters Is A Deepfake
BOOM found several visual inconsistencies that indicate it was made using AI.
A digitally altered video is circulating on social media with the false claim that it shows Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Sumit Jha resigning from the Indian Police force, alleging he was pressured to lie about student protesters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).
BOOM found that the video has been digitally altered. The clip shows a mismatch between the audio and Jha's lip movements, and running it through an AI detection tool confirmed it as synthetic.
On July 20, the CJP march at Delhi's Jantar Mantar turned violent when the Delhi Police and the Rapid Action Force (RAF) used lathis and tear gas to prevent protestors from reaching the Parliament. The CJP called off its nationwide protest after Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan submitted his resignation on July 25.
The Claim:
The 47-second video, in which Jha purportedly says he was asked to prove the students guilty and could not stand for it, is being shared on social media with the claim that his conscience prompted him to resign from his post.

What We Found:
1) Original video shows Jha's appeal against Pakistani propaganda handles
A reverse image search traced it back to the original video posted by the official Delhi Police X handle, on July 23.
In the original, Jha warns students to be cautious of Pakistan-based social media handles that have been spreading misinformation about the Delhi Police amid the CJP protests, noting that more than 400 such accounts have been blocked, many of which were also active during Operation Sindoor.
BOOM has fact-checked these deepfake videos.
Additionally, we did not find any news reports about Jha's resignation from the Delhi Police.
2) Results from AI detection tools
There is an audio synchronisation mismatch in the viral clip, which is common in deepfakes. We ran the video through Deepfake O Meter's AI detection tools, which flagged it as AI-generated.
