A video of Virat Kohli holding the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy as Anushka Sharma appears to wipe his tears after Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) second consecutive title win has gone viral on social media. BOOM found that the video is AI-generated and does not depict a real moment from the post-match victory celebrations.
Kohli anchored the chase in the IPL final with an unbeaten 75 runs off 42 balls, guiding RCB to a five-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans. Anushka Sharma had joined Kohli on the field shortly after the match posing for photographs with the IPL trophy alongside other team members and their families.

What We Found:
1) Post match trophy celebrations
We watched the complete IPL final post-match trophy presentation and celebrations and did not find the purported moment shown in the video. While Sharma joined Kohli and other RCB players on the field after the victory, the broadcast footage does not show Sharma wiping Kohli’s tears while he is holding the IPL trophy, as seen in the viral video.
2) AI-detection tool results
We ran the video through AI-detection tools including Deepfake-o-Meter, an AI detection tool developed by the UB Media Forensics Lab, and Hiya AI voice detector.
Hiya flagged the audio, which replicates Navjot Singh Sidhu's commentary and appears to say that the moment is goosebumps-worthy, as AI-generated. One of the results of Deepfake-O-Meter showed 99% AI-generated likelihood of the video.
3) Broadcast graphics and jersey inconsistencies
A comparison with the live broadcast revealed several discrepancies. The official broadcast displayed a "Tata IPL Final" logo in the on-screen graphics, which is absent in the viral video.
Additionally, Kohli's jersey in the viral clip contains the words "outdoors learn", which do not appear on the original RCB jersey worn during the final, indicating it is manipulated.
