BOOM found that the video shows a demolition drive in Bangladesh’s Jashore carried out by the country’s National Housing Authority in May this year.
Within weeks of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) coming to power in West Bengal, multiple incidents of 'bulldozer action' targeting illegal establishments were reported across the state by the newly formed government. The incidents triggered a political uproar in Bengal, with former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee strongly protesting the demolition drive. The video has been shared against this backdrop.

What We Found: Video Is From Bangladesh's Jashore District
1. Video Report From Bangladesh: We first ran a keyword search in Bengali related to the demolition of 26 illegal buildings and found a May 10, 2026, video report by Bangladeshi news outlet DBC News carrying the same visuals. The report stated that the demolition drive took place earlier this month in Bangladesh’s Jashore district.
In the video report, an extended version of the visuals shows Bangladeshi police officers present at the spot, while an official speaking to the media mentions the demolition of illegal properties at several locations in Bangladesh, including Jashore.
2. Demolition Drive in Jashore: Bangladeshi news outlets Jago News24 and Dhaka Tribune reported on May 11 that the demolition drive in Jashore was carried out between May 10 and May 11 by Bangladesh’s NHA.
According to the reports, Ziaur Rahman, Executive Engineer of the National Housing Authority’s Khulna Division, said nearly five acres of government khas (state-owned) land, currently valued at around 50 crore Taka, would be recovered during the two-day operation. He also stated that similar drives to reclaim government land would continue regularly.
