Several social media pages of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recently shared a video montage of vehicles plying on brightly decorated and illuminated roads and flyovers in Patna, Bihar, claiming it showed recent development in the city under the BJP-led government.
BOOM traced the original video to a Patna-based creator who confirmed that the video shows real locations and that the lighting in the visuals was enhanced using AI editing tools.
Further, we reached out to a local journalist, who confirmed that the locations seen in the video are JP Ganga Path, Bailey Road and Atal Path. He also added that the infrastructure seen in the visuals feature extra lighting.
The Claim
The BJP, through its official X handle, shared the video with a Hindi caption that translates to, "Don't be surprised—this is Patna, the capital of Bihar! Wherever the BJP-NDA government is in power, there is rapid-paced development..."
(Original Text in Hindi: चौंकिए मत, ये बिहार की राजधानी पटना है! जहां भाजपा-NDA सरकार, वहां विकास की तेज रफ्तार...)
The video was also shared by BJP state social media handles, including BJP Bihar and BJP Jharkhand, as well as Patna Sahib Lok Sabha MP Ravi Shankar Prasad.
It is however unclear why the BJP later deleted the post and reposted it.
What We Found:
1. Inconsistencies In The Video: We first took a closer look at the video and found multiple anomalies that are commonly found in AI-generated or AI-enhanced visuals. In the video, a blue signboard can be seen with "Patna High Court", "Secratariat", and "Airport" written on it. The letters in Hindi look distorted, a common feature of AI generated text which converts text into gibberish.
We also spotted multiple bikes with blank number plates, a pillar bent out of shape, which are very common anomalies when AI is used to generate sharp visuals.
2. The Creator Who Shared The Video: We then found a clearer, longer version posted on June 2, 2026, by a creator from Patna. When BOOM reached out to the creator, Ujjwal Singh, he said that he used visuals from real locations in Patna and enhanced the lighting using AI tools.
Several of the discrepancies visible in the viral footage were also present in the version posted by Singh. Notably, we found several similar AI-made videos related to Patna on Singh's profile.
The creator later called out the same video after it was shared by BJP's official social media account, stating that it contained AI visuals, and posted a video on his Instagram handle claiming it was the original one.
3. AI Detector Tools Flag Manipulation: For further verification, we tested the video using several AI detection tools. A test on Hive Moderation stated that the video is 99.4% likely to be AI-generated. We also tested the video using Google's AI detection tool, SynthID, which found Google AI watermarks in the video that are invisible to the human eye, confirming it to be AI-generated.
Our partners at the Deepfakes Analysis Unit (DAU) also tested the video using other AI detection models and their analysis found traces of AI made visuals in the viral video.
4. On-Ground Visuals from Patna: In response to allegations that the video was AI-generated, BJP Bihar on June 5, 2026, shared a video collage featuring the same locations in Patna from day time to show the infrastructural development. The post identified the sites as Lohia Path Chakra, Atal Path, and JP Ganga Path, all of which closely resemble the locations shown in the earlier video.
A resident and reporter from Patna Rahul Kumar also visited the location and shared videos from Nehru Marg with BOOM. The footage closely matches the location shown in the viral video.
According to Rahul Kumar, the video shows actual locations such as JP Ganga Path, Bailey Road and Atal Path. He added that extra lighting effects appear to have been digitally edited inserted into the footage.
Kumar told BOOM, "These flyovers and roads were inaugurated during the Nitish Kumar government. However, for the past few months, the lights at many of these locations have often remained off at night."
