A montage of two videos of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Saayoni Ghosh is circulating online with a misleading claim that Ghosh changed her campaign tone in West Bengal - from singing a pro-Islamic song to chanting a Hindu mantra, after witnessing heavy voter turnout in the first phase.
BOOM found that Ghosh’s speeches are from campaigns held in two different states, and one video has been selectively cropped and shared out of context.
The first phase of Bengal polls witnessed a massive voter turnout of nearly 93 per cent. Leaders from the ruling TMC and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed that voters backed their respective parties and expressed confidence of favourable support in Phase 2 of the elections on April 29.
The Claim
Right wing user Rishi Bagree shared the video with the caption, "Power of 93% voter Turnout".

What We Found: Viral Video Is Cropped and Misleading
1. Video Not From West Bengal Campaign: We ran a keyword search on Facebook and found a post dated April 4, 2026, featuring a video in which Ghosh is heard singing part of the Bengali folk song “De De Pal Tule De.” The post identifies the rally location as Jania in Assam’s Barpeta district.
Following this lead, we found that Ghosh had travelled to Assam on April 4 to campaign for TMC candidate Sherman Ali Ahmed in the Mandia assembly constituency ahead of the Assam elections. She also shared visuals from the rally on her verified social media accounts.
2. Video Is Cropped: The viral video shows a selective portion of Saayoni Ghosh’s speech, where she is heard chanting lines from the Hindu devotional hymn Hanuman Chalisa, while excluding chants from other faiths.
Ghosh shared a longer version of the same video on her verified social media profiles on April 24, 2026, during her campaign in support of TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee in her constituency Bhawanipore, Kolkata. In the original footage, she can be heard accusing the BJP of engaging in divisive politics and reciting chants from different faiths while speaking about the area’s diversity.
In the video, Ghosh addresses the constituency Bhawanipore as “Mini India” and says it is home to people from multiple faiths. She adds that while a section of residents chant Sanskrit hymns such as “Rupang Dehi, Jayang Dehi” and “Ya Devi Sarva Bhuteshu” from the Durga Saptashati, others can be heard reciting the Islamic prayer in praise of Allah, “La ilaha illallah, Muhammadur Rasulullah, Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim.”
She then says, “It can be heard coming from the lane right next to it, ‘Jai Hanuman gyan gun sagar, Jai Kapis tihun lok ujagar…,’” singing lines from the Hanuman Chalisa.
Later, Ghosh also chants lines from the Sikh prayer “Ik Onkar Satnam Karta Purakh,” while hitting out at the BJP over religious politics.
