A blurry image purportedly showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi shaking hands with Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke is being circulated online as evidence of a meeting between them.
BOOM found no credible evidence supporting the photo's authenticity. Further analysis by our partners at Deepfakes Analysis Unit (DAU), using several AI detection tools, found strong indications that the image was generated using AI.
The Cockroach Janata Party, a satirical political movement that gained attention after controversial remarks by Chief Justice Surya Kant about the youth, is currently demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged exam irregularities. On June 6, 2026, hundreds of students and supporters joined a CJP protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, after which the organisation announced its plans to expand the campaign nationwide.
The Claim
Several users on X shared the image after the Jantar Mantar protest, alleging that it showed PM Modi meeting Dipke during the demonstration.
The claim gained further attention after Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut shared the image and alleged that it showed Dipke meeting PM Modi in the US. Raut later deleted his post.
What We Found: Photo Of PM Modi Meeting Dipke Is Fake
1. No Evidence Supporting the Image's Authenticity: A reverse image search yielded no credible source for the photograph. The image purportedly shows Prime Minister Narendra Modi meeting Dipke before a large crowd. Given the public nature of such an event, it is reasonable to expect independent photographs, videos, or media reports documenting the meeting. We found no such evidence.
2. Dipke Denied Any Such Meeting: We also found a June 11, 2026, report by ABP Majha featuring Dipke's reaction to Raut's claim. In the report, Dipke rejected the allegation and stated that the image could have been AI-generated. According to Dipke, such a meeting would have been unlikely given the protocols involved, as he was only a student at the time.
3. AI Tools Flag Manipulation: For further verification, we reached out to our partners at DAU who tested the photo using multiple AI detection tools such as Sightengine and AI or Not. Both the tools detected presence of AI maniuplation in the picture indicating the image is fabricated.
