Old Videos Falsely Linked To Protests Against CEC Gyanesh Kumar

Old videos are being falsely shared as visuals from an upcoming Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

BOOM found that one video is from a CJP protest against then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in July 2026, while the other shows an anti-EVM protest held in Delhi in January 2024.

Protesters from various groups gathered in Delhi on September 25 demanding Kumar’s resignation and were detained before reaching Jantar Mantar. The protest followed an Indian Express report on disagreements within the Election Commission over electoral roll revisions. The ECI rejected suggestions of an internal breakdown. The CJP has also announced a protest in Mumbai on October 2 demanding Kumar’s resignation.

The Claim:

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut shared a video showing protesters chanting “EVM hatao, desh bachao” (Remove EVMs, save the country), claiming that protests demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation had begun at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

What We Found:

1) First video is from an anti-EVM protest in January 2024

We broke the video into key-frame and ran a reverse image search using results showed that the video dates back to 2024 from a protest against EVM machines.

We also found news reports with the same visuals on protest held against EVMs at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on January 31, 2024.

2) Rajiv Chowk video is from a CJP protest in July 2026

We found that the second video dates back to July 2026 and shows a CJP protest demanding the resignation of then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
