Old, Unrelated Videos From India Falsely Linked To Nepal Floods

Two unrelated videos from India are being shared on social media with false claims linking them to the recent flash floods in Nepal. One video shows a dam filled with water, while another shows a group of boys finding a bag full of Indian currency notes.

BOOM found that neither video is related to the Nepal tragedy. The first video shows a dam in Pune, Maharashtra, while the second is from Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, and has been online since at least July 2026, predating the floods in Nepal.

The death toll from the devastating floods in Nepal and China has crossed 1,000, with 987 deaths reported in Nepal and 16 in China. Rescue operations are still underway as landslides and damaged roads and bridges have left several places cut off.

      The Claim:

One video claims to show the Gandak Barrage, a joint India-Nepal project which was inaugurated by former prime minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru. The second video shows a group of boys finding cash in a bag from the river

      What We Found:

      1) Dam Video Is From Maharashtra, Not Nepal

Taking a cue from replies to the Instagram post, we searched for keywords “Bhatghar Dam” and found that the dam in the video is from Pune district in Maharashtra. The same visuals were viral last month when the dam reportedly reached full capacity.

We also found similar videos from the same location which match the dam seen in the viral video.

      2) Video Of Boys Finding Money Is From Varanasi

We ran a reverse image search using keyframes from the second video and found that it had been circulating online since July 2026, pre-dating the Nepal floods which happened on August 26, 2026.

The Instagram handle @parshuram_676 had replied to a user stating that the video is shot in Vrindavan, Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh. The handle has also been posting several other similar videos of 'finding' a bag filled with money.

The Times of India reported on August 31, that while downstream villages in West Champaran faced flooding and evacuations when flood waters from Nepal reached down stream, the controlled release of water helped prevent a catastrophic disaster across north Bihar.
