Canada Police Deny Beef, Communal Angle In Viral Landlord Dispute Incident
Surrey Police Service (SPS) told BOOM that the video is part of an ongoing landlord-tenant dispute and that the incident had nothing to do with beef, meat, religion or ideology.
A video showing a woman confronting her tenants over the use of an outdoor barbecue at a property in Surrey, Canada, is being shared on social media with a communal claim that an Indian-origin “Hindutva” landlord objected to her tenants grilling beef.
Surrey Police Service (SPS) told BOOM that police had attended the property several times over the ongoing dispute and that an arrest made on one occasion had nothing to do with “beef, meat, religion, or ideology”.
The video is one of several clips posted by the account, @tiwanafarmservivor, documenting the dispute between a tenant and a landlady. The videos show repeated confrontations between the two, including arguments over access to the property and alleged damage to belongings. In one video she can be seen entering the house and attacking the tenant. In another video, police officers can be seen at the property, and the landlady appears to be taken into custody, with an officer referring to her as “Raj”.

The Claim:
Several social media users shared the video claiming that the woman was a “Hindutva” landlady who objected to her tenants grilling beef.
One post claimed, “A Hindutva land lady illegally abusing tenant for Bbq beef burgers on grill”, while another alleged that the woman confronted her tenants over “cow meat” and attempted to throw beef steaks off the grill.

What We Found:
1) Canada Police deny dispute linked to beef or religion
BOOM reached out to Surrey Police Service (SPS), British Columbia, Canada, seeking details about the incident and whether the dispute was related to the tenants cooking beef.
Ian MacDonald of SPS Media Relations told BOOM that the video captures only part of what was an ongoing dispute between the landlord and tenants, which required police intervention on several occasions.
MacDonald said both the landlord and the tenants had contacted the police for assistance at different points during the dispute.
He categorically denied any communal angle to the incident, stating that an arrest has been made on one occasion. “An arrest was made on one occasion, but it had nothing to do with beef, meat, religion, or ideology.”
2) Landlord was arrested, investigation ongoing
SPS declined to disclose the identity of the landlady, citing the ongoing investigation. “The landlord’s arrest is part of an ongoing investigation where there have not been any approved charges and therefore, I cannot share her name,” MacDonald said.
He further told in an email to BOOM that the tenants no longer reside at the property and that police are no longer receiving calls related to disputes between the two parties.
