The Cockroach Janata Party's (CJP) protest, backed by activist Sonam Wangchuk's indefinite hunger strike, has sparked a wave of AI-generated images and false claims on social media.
Protesters from across the country are planning to march to Parliament on July 20 to demand the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged entrance exam leaks. The demonstrations have intensified after Delhi Police forcefully removed Wangchuk from the protest site on July 18 taking him to hospital against his will on the 21st day of his hunger strike.
Amid these developments, a verified X account, @worshipVK, which describes itself as a "creator," shared multiple dubious claims about the protest. Several of these posts were also amplified by other verified X accounts.
Claim 1: Inspector Shivani Chaudhary Says Wangchuk Sought Police Help for Medical Attention
A police inspector named Shivani Chaudhary said Wangchuk called the police himself as CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and spokesperson Saurav Das were not at the protest site and he needed immediate medical attention. Chaudhary further alleged Wangchuk felt betrayed that he was fasting while others were "enjoying" in the name of the protest, and that the police would never have taken him away without his consent. BJP Rajya Sabha MP Radha Mohan Das Agrawal also shared the post, amplifying the same claim.
What We Found
When we searched for keywords related to Inspector Shivani Chaudhary and her purported remark about Sonam Wangchuk, we found no credible news reports supporting the claim. A reverse image search of the viral photo also did not lead to any credible source. Additionally, we found an official statement from the X handle of DCP New Delhi, which said the police action against Wangchuk was carried out in compliance with a High Court order and on expert medical advice due to his deteriorating health condition.
The same was corroborated by DCP New Delhi Sachin Sharma when he was asked about the police action at the Jantar Mantar protest site on the morning of July 18, 2026.
BOOM then checked the image of the alleged police officer using AI detection tools Hive Moderation and TruthScan. Both tools found with more than 97 percent confidence that the image was generated using AI. The photo of Wangchuk is genuine and appears in news reports featuring images captured by a photographer from the news agency PTI.
Claim 2: Apartment Owner Alleges Abhijeet Dipke Was Not Present at the July 18 Protest, Says Alcohol Bottles Were Found in His Flat
A post shared several times claimed that the owner of the apartment had rented one room of his 3BHK flat to one Roshan Kumar and informed the police before July 18 after learning that Abhijeet Dipke would be staying there with friends. It further claimed that when police visited the apartment on July 18, they found Dipke and his friends there, while the owner found beer bottles inside the flat.
The account's post included a photo of an elderly man speaking to a reporter alongside an image resembling Abhijeet Dipke being detained by the police on the morning of July 18, a similar visual that was shared by Nationalist Congress Party spokesperson Anish Gawande.
In his post, Gawande said that Dipke was detained and assaulted outside his residence and included a video of the incident. Taking this as a cue, we analysed the image of the elderly man speaking to the reporter using AI detection tools and found that it was AI-generated.
We also found an interview with Gawande in which he confirmed that Dipke was at his residence on the morning of July 18, when Wangchuk was forcibly taken away, and that the CJP founder encountered the police there.
Claim 3: Brahmin Student Alleges He Was Forced to Sing "Bas Allah Ka Naam Rahega" at CJP Protest
Two photos of a young man crying were viral claiming he was a Brahmin who joined the protest but later saw a Students' Federation of India (SFI) camp where members allegedly wanted to sing "bas Allah ka naam rahega." It further claimed he witnessed protesters abusing Hindus and their beliefs, and urged other students not to visit the protest site.
To verify, BOOM ran a reverse image search on both photographs but could not find any credible source for them. We then analysed the images using multiple AI detection tools, which indicated with more than 99 per cent confidence that they were generated using artificial intelligence.
However, a keyword search related to the claim led us to a video interview of a protester at the CJP protest from June 8, where we found a person who closely resembles the individual seen in the viral photo. In the video, however, he identifies himself as Kapil, not Rudra Mishra.
The youth can also be heard expressing dissatisfaction with the CJP protest, claiming that he heard anti-Modi, anti-RSS, and anti-Brahmin remarks at the protest site and that nobody there was talking about the alleged paper leak issue.
