Did Kashmiri Women Protest Abrogation Of Article 370? A FactCheck

An old video of a funeral procession in Kashmir is being shared as a recent protest in Jammu And Kashmir. The video is being shared in light of the recent announcement by Home Minister Amit Shah on abrogation of Article 370 and revoking the special status to the state.

The 39-second video is viral on Facebook with the caption, "hundreds of thousands Kashmiris took street yesterday in Indian occupied Kashmir to liberate their land from India.."

FACT-CHECK

BOOM broke the video into keyframes and ran a reverse image search using Yandex and found a video on YouTube titled, "Kashmiri women take out a procession during the funeral rites of two teenage" dated December 11, 2018 which was uploaded by a YouTube channel named 'Pakistan people's party'.

Additionally we found a Facebook post dated December 10, 2018 that had the caption, "Kashmiri women rally in support of #Kashmir independence..."

News reports on the incident

Two teenage militants named Mudasir Rashid Parray, 14, and Saqib Bilal Sheikh, 17, both of Hajin in Bandipora district were killed in a gun battle with security forces on December 9, 2018 reported Rising Kashmir.

"A massive gathering of people participated in the funeral prayers of the slain militants, who were buried in a local graveyard at Hajin," futher reported Rising Kashmir.

According to news reports, one of the teenagers killed named Saqib Bilal Sheikh had acted in a small role in the 2014 Bollywood movie Haider.

This is not the first instance of old videos from the Valley being revived in light of recent events. BOOM earlier fact checked video of a fire mishap in Kashmir that was shared as atrocities by the Indian Army after revoking Article 370.
