Incumbent Prime Minister Lobsang Sangay Re-elected In Tibetan Parliamentary Polls

The prime minister of Tibet’s government-in-exile was re-elected in a vote that is part of an effort to strengthen democracy within the movement as the Dalai Lama ages and it struggles to win more autonomy for Tibet in China.

Officials of the self-proclaimed Tibetan administration head-quartered in India announced that Lobsang Sangay had won a second term. Sangay won the first elections held in 2011, when the Dalai Lama, Tibetans’ spiritual leader, officially relinquished political leadership.
