A digitally altered video is being shared on social media with the false claim that it shows Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri admitting that the government disclosed the names of soldiers killed in Operation Sindoor due to pressure from their families.
BOOM found that the video contains an overlaid AI voice track to make the false claim. In the original video, Misri was commenting on Former Indian and Pakistani officials meeting in Colombo for an unofficial Track II dialogue.
Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani was appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff and Secretary and assumed charge on May 31, 2026. Additionally, the government released the names of six army personnel killed during Operation Sindoor on June 27, 2026.
The Claim:
In the 43-second video, Misri purportedly admits that the government recently revealed the names of the martyred soldiers due to pressure from the families of the soldiers. He is also heard saying that this decision came from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

What We Found:
1) Vikram Misri's original statement
A reverse image search on the keyframes of the video showed that the original video was posted by ANI on June 29, 2026.
In the original video, Misri is asked whether India and Pakistan are holding Track 2 discussions in Colombo. He replies, stating these meetings are not official engagements and do not represent the views of the government.
Additionally, we did not find any news reports on Misri making any statements regarding the disclosure of Indian soldiers killed during Operation Sindoor
2) AI Deepfake Voice Detection Tool Results
We ran the video through HIVE Moderation AI detector and Hiya's Deepfake voice detector, which showed results that the audio is likely AI-generated. We also spotted an audio synchronisation mismatch, which is common in Deepfakes.
