An edited video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi purportedly walking across the stage while the national anthem can be heard playing is being shared on social media, falsely claiming that he disrespected the anthem.
BOOM found that the audio of the national anthem was overlaid in the viral video. In the original video from June 20, 2025, during an event in Siwan, Bihar, the national anthem was not playing in the background.
The Claim:
The 12-second video showing Modi arriving on stage and greeting Former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and other leaders while the national anthem plays in the background is being shared on social media with claims that Modi continued walking during the national anthem, thereby disrespecting it.

What We Found:
1) Video from June 20, 2025
At the 0:10 mark, the date June 20, 2025, and the location Jasauli Kharg, Pachrukhi are visible on a screen. Taking a cue from this, we ran a keyword search and found the original video uploaded to Modi’s official YouTube channel on June 21, 2025. In the original clip, the national anthem was not playing in the background.
Even in a livestream of the event, Modi arrives on stage, shakes hands with Kumar and other leaders, and is welcomed at the event, the anthem can't be heard playing.
2) News reports of Modi visiting Siwan on June 20, 2025
According to news reports, Modi visited Siwan, Bihar, on June 20, 2025 where he laid the foundation stone for development projects worth more than Rs 5,200 crore ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections. The event was attended by Kumar, former Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, and several other NDA leaders.
