9-Month Revenue of Statue Of Unity At ₹52.9 Cr, Footfall Above 19 Lakh: RTI Reply

This RTI reply to BOOM also shows that while the statue is making an average monthly surplus of ₹2.8 crore, it will take 42 years to breakeven at the current revenue pace.

Total Footfall At Above 19.4 Lakh

The total footfall for the monument over a 9-month period stood at 19,36,582. The RTI states that the monument, being operational for 232 days since inauguration, saw the overall average daily footfall for this period at 8,347.

Monthly Expenditure Averages ₹3.12 crores

The average monthly expenditure of the Statue of Unity stands at ₹3,12,08,545 from November 2018 to April 2019. The RTI has only provided monthly averages, and not a month-by-month account of these figures.

The RTI provides the expenditures under three sub-heads:

  • Those incurred by SVPRET/SSNNL
  • Those incurred by other departments
  • Larsen and Toubro (L&T) maintenance

The expenditure borne by other department includes costs of ticketing guides and and the cleaning process of Kevadia (the town where the statue is located). No further categorisation has been been provided under 'L&T Maintenance' sub-header. L&T is India's largest construction company, and was awarded the designing, engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance of the statue, according to the official website of the monument.

Although not given in the RTI, BOOM calculation reveals a surplus of ₹2.8 crores monthly for the statue based on the given data.
