Delhi High court

The Delhi High Court is one of the premier high courts in India, established on October 31, 1966. It has jurisdiction over the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi and serves as a key judicial institution for the residents of Delhi. The court's primary function is to adjudicate civil, criminal, and constitutional matters, along with appeals from lower courts within its jurisdiction.

Located near India Gate in New Delhi, the Delhi High Court is known for handling a diverse range of cases, from public interest litigations (PILs) and constitutional matters to commercial disputes and family law cases. The court has played a significant role in shaping the legal landscape of India, delivering landmark judgments on issues such as environmental protection, women’s rights, privacy, and civil liberties. The court comprises a Chief Justice and several other judges appointed by the President of India, following recommendations from the Supreme Court Collegium. The Delhi High Court operates with multiple benches, including a Green Bench for environmental issues, a Commercial Bench for business disputes, and special benches for fast-tracking cases related to women and children.

The Delhi High Court has also been actively involved in addressing urgent matters like COVID-19 management, pollution control, and rights of marginalized communities. It has contributed to legal reforms and the interpretation of the Indian Constitution, playing a significant role in shaping the nation’s legal framework.
