Should Sachin Have Spoken Up Earlier About Chappell?

Sachin Tendulkar has stirred a controversy by writing in his autobiography, Playing It My Way, that the tenure under Greg Chappell as a coach was the worst of his 24-year career. Should Sachin have spoken earlier about all the controversies surrounding Chappell’s tenure in 2007?

“I am happy that it has come out now,” said cricket expert Ayaz Memon on Boom News’s show #Cricket-O-Mania. “There was a lot of turmoil during that time. The surprise is that everyone involved in the churn survived except Chappell.”

Journalist Abhishek Dubey said Chappell was impatient, and wanted to do everything together.

“In many ways, he could have been the bull in a china shop. Chappell was more like a soccer manager,” Memon added.

Cricket enthusiast Dilip D’souza, who has written a book on Sachin’s last test, said he would like to know about the conflicts among the players and technical issues players faced in the book. “I hope the book also gives us an insight about the man.”

“What’s the point of a player like Sachin writing a sanitised version of a book? I hope it is a comprehensive book,” Memon said, and added that he hoped Sachin has some strong recommendations on improving cricket in India.
