Haider, directed by Vishal Bhradwaj, and co-written by him and Basharat Peer, is a modern-day adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. It is set in 1995, in a strife-torn Kashmir. Shahid Kapoor plays the role of Haider, a young student who returns home to Srinagar on receiving news of his father’s mysterious disappearance. Not only does he learn that security forces have detained his father for harbouring militants, but that his mother, Ghazala, played by Tabu, is in a relationship with his chacha, Khurram, a role essayed by Kay Kay Menon. In his quest to find his father, Haider is informed that it was Khurram who had betrayed his brother so he could marry Ghazala. What follows is his journey to avenge his father’s death. Shraddha Kapoor makes an appearance as Arshia, a journalist and Haider’s love interest.

Bang Bang!, directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Fox Star Studios, is a remake of Hollywood movie, Knight and Day. Hrithik Roshan, plays Rajveer Nanda, a top-class robber who steals the Kohinoor diamond from London. He bumps into Harleen Sahni, played by Katrina Kaif, in Shimla. Harleen is a boring receptionist, who is chased by both villains and the Indian Secret Service. Together, they travel from Czech Republic to Thailand, shooting weapons, escaping bomb raids, speeding cars and surrounded by general mayhem.
