Italian navy releases dramatic video of refugee vessel capsizing on May 25. Large wooden fishing boat overcrowded with more than 500 people on board capsized off the coast of Libya. Video shows the vessel rocking violently before completely flipping over.
People swam away from the boat after it capsized. Italian navy rescued 562 people while five refugees died.
At least 1,370 migrants have died so far this year trying to make the boat journey to Europe, according to the International Organization for Migration. Italy has helped rescue more than 10,000 refugees in May alone, a sign that Europe’s refugee crisis is far from over.
