An old video of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah chanting Bharat Mata Ki Jai is being shared falsely as a recent event.
The posts falsely claim that Abdullah chanted the slogan after Amit Shah's recent appointment as Home Minister.
The video clip is viral with a caption, “soon after Mr Amit Shah became Home Minister of India Farooq Abdullah” and some posts have called Abdullah "a hypocrite"
In the 30 second clip, Abdullah can be heard urging people to come together and shout 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' with him with the last few seconds of the video show Shah sitting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
BOOM found that the video is from a 2018 event when Abdullah was speaking at a prayer meet held to mourn the death of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The event was held on August 20, 2018 at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Delhi.
BOOM found a video on Rajya Sabha TV's official YouTube channel from the same day with a caption, " National Conference's Farooq Abdullah addressed an prayer meeting to mourn the death of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The prayer meet was held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on Aug 20, 2018."
At exactly 5.31 minutes Abdullah can be heard saying the same lines as in the viral clip where he asks people to chant "Bharat Mat Ki Jai" with him.
