Yakub Memon, if he is hanged, will be the first person to be executed for his involvement in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts. The sentencing comes 21 years after he was arrested - and marks the closure of one of India's oldest terror cases.

Yakub Memon, convicted for helping plan and execute the serial blasts in Mumbai in 1993, has appealed again to the Supreme Court to stop his hanging, scheduled for July 30.

The only well- educated member of the Memon family, Yakub Abdul Razak Memon is the younger brother of gangster Tiger Memon. Yakub was found guilty off criminal conspiracy, arranging money and managing its disbursement through the co-accused in the Mumbai serial blasts case. A look at his role in the 1993 serial blasts that shook Mumbai.
