GROUND REPORTS

Girls Education In India And COVID-19: The Gap Widens

BOOM brings a ground report from Madhya Pradesh on the impact of coronavirus in India on girls education

By - BOOM | 11 Jun 2020 6:18 PM GMT

Recently, a 14 year old teen in Kerala killed herself because she couldn't access online classes brought on by the COVID-19 lockdown. Women in India account for 16% internet users compared to 36% men, massively impacting their access to education. The COVID-19 lockdown has exposed India's deeply gendered digital divide which fails our daughters by design.

BOOM brings a ground report from Madhya Pradesh on the impact of coronavirus in India on girls education and how the access to education is cut off even though PM Modi's much touted 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign is much talked about.
