The pastor was assaulted by a former member of the church and not by a Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) member. BOOM had previously debunked this in May 2018 and found that this incident occurred in a church run by the Church of South India (CSI) in Bhadradri Kothagudem, Telangana. BOOM had also spoken to a member of the CSI who had said that the attacker had been expelled from the church previously and had approached the priest regarding his expulsion before attacking him.
