Sundar Pichai has been named the Chief Executive Officer of Google, replacing Larry Page, as a part of a corporate restructuring of the company.

A slimmed-down Google is now the largest subsidiary of a new parent company called Alphabet. Page is the new CEO of Alphabet, with co-founder Sergey Brin as the President.

In 2004, Pichai joined Google as its vice president of product management, where he led the team working on Google's Chrome browser and operating system.

He then went on to add Google Apps and Android to his portfolio by 2013. In 2014, Pichai was appointed Product Chief and took charge of most Google's core products including Google+, Android Pay, Google Search, Ads, Maps, Gmail and many more.

Take a look at his meteoric rise as the 43-year-old from Chennai takes over at the helm of Google.
