Sebastian Coe has been elected president of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) after beating Ukraine's Sergey Bubka. Take a look at the illustrious athlete's career and profile.

Coe won by 115 votes to 92 in a ballot of the governing body's 50th Congress. He takes over as head of a sport battling a public relations crisis. The IAAF has been accused of failing in its duty to address doping amid allegations that blood doping was rife in athletics.

Coe will replace Senegalese Lamine Diack, who has run the body for the last 16 years, at the end of the August 22-30 world championships in Beijing.

He is one of Britain's finest sportsman, having won gold medals in the 1500m at the 1980 and 1984 Olympics. He was also the silver medallist in Men's 800m at the 1980 Olympics and set numerous world records over both the 1500m and 800m.

The biggest challenge he faces is to restore public confidence in the sport. Coe has proposed a fully independent anti-doping tribunal to deal with the issues.
