It is almost a year that Sachin Tendulkar played his last test match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Cricket expert Ayaz Memon said: "The match itself was hyped but see it from the Indian cricket's perspective. This kind of send-off is given to very few sportsmen."
Dilip D'Souza, author of Last Test: Exit Sachin Tendulkar, said the last match was not about the competition but the adulation. He added that the book is more about larger issues of cricket. "I have tried to look at the commercialisation of cricket, IPL, power of BCCI.... all from the angle of a fan," D'Souza said.
Memon said he could have retired after India won the World Cup in 2011. "He has left behind a huge legacy. The sway he held over Indian psyche is unmatched."
Sports journalist Sunandan Lele had a simple statement: "Hard to believe... he was a member of all Indian families."
He added that watching the last match with Sachin's brother Ajit Tendulkar was a "very emotional moment for all of us." Memon added that the speech he made at the end of the match "was unbelievable."
"More than Sachin, Ajit Tendulkar has retired," Lele said. "Sachin's second innings has just started."
D'Souza said: "He is in our minds all the time. He will never retire, he is going to be part of our lives."
