By - Anwar Khan | 30 July 2015 12:51 PM GMT

With the hanging of Yakub Memon in Nagpur Jail on July 30, the 22-year long case of the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts has finally come to a close.

On March 12, 1993 thirteen blasts ripped through the city of Mumbai killing 257 people and injuring more than 700. These blasts were India's first major, precisely co-ordinated serial explosions that damaged life and property worth more than Rs. 27 crore.

Twenty-two years later, Yakub Memon – younger brother of gangster Tiger Memon was hanged after being convicted for his role in the blasts in 2007. He was the only convict to be handed the death sentence among the 12 convictions handed by the special TADA Court in 2007.
