2015's total solar eclipse was visible to very few due to cloudy conditions. However, lucky passengers onboard a Lufthansa flight were treated to a ring-side view of the celestial event.
Passengers flying on the transatlantic journey from Chicago to Munich on a Lufthansa flight were treated to a special sight on March 20 when the pilot took a detour near Iceland so that the travelers could witness the total solar eclipse occurring over northern Europe. Passengers were provided eye-wear by the airline company and were also given a choice to be woken up for the event or not.
The flight took a small detour and descended to 12,600 feet to catch a glimpse of the peak of the eclipse.
Due to cloudy conditions the solar eclipse was visible in very few parts of the world with reports coming in of sightings in Europe and parts of Asia. The total coverage of the sun by the moon lasted for less than 3 minutes.
The last total eclipse was in November 2012 over Australia. The next one will be over Indonesia in March 2016, according to NASA.
