Trigger warning: Mention of Sexual Assault, Rape
A disturbing video in which a group of boys sexually assault a minor girl is being circulated on social media with a false claim that it is related to the recent gangrape of a 20-year-old NEET aspirant in Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh.
BOOM found that the video dates back to 28 September, 2019 and is unrelated to the recent rape case from Chitrakoot.
This post is shared in the backdrop of a recent gangrape of a 20-year-old NEET aspirant from Satna, Madhya Pradesh by three men who allegedly posed as forest officials in the Devangana Valley forest area of Chitrakoot district, Uttar Pradesh, on July 22, 2026.
The Claim:
The graphic 8-second video is being shared with the claim that it shows the recent gangrape of the NEET aspirant in UP, allegedly perpetrated by men posing as forest officials who tied up her boyfriend's hands and feet before assaulting her.

What We Found:
1) Video from 28, September, 2019
A reverse image search led BOOM to a post from September 28, 2019, with a caption stating that the video showed an incident from Rajgir, Bihar where a group of boys gangraped a minor girl. This video was also shared by Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal on September 29, 2019.
2) Rape of a minor from Rajgir, Bihar
We ran a keyword search, which led us to news reports confirming the incident. The girl and her male companion were surrounded by around 10 locals on a hill in Rajgir. Six men then assaulted her friend and gangraped her while some of them filmed the incident. A Lallantop report also mentions the video which was made viral a week after the incident, on September 24, 2019.
