No, This Is Not A Video Of A Boulder Striking A Car On NH10

BOOM found that the viral video was from China and not from India as claimed.

A video showing a moving car hit by a huge boulder rolling down the side of a mountain in China is being shared with the false claim that the accident occurred on the National Highway 10 (NH10) that connects the India - Bangladesh border via Siliguri to Gangtok.

The same 15 seconds video was shared by a Facebook page named 'Publiknama', with the caption, "ALERT | Boluders fall on moving car at 29th Mile, NH 10."

The video has been viewed around 5,661 times as of writing the article.

29 mile on NH 10 highway lies at Kalimpong district in West Bengal and the road connects Siliguri, West Bengal to Gangtok, Sikkim.

This region is prone to landslides which is one of the primary reasons the video is going viral.

FACT-CHECK

Several Facebook users pointed out that the video was not from India and no such incident had taken place on 29 mile, NH10.

According to state-owned Chinese media CGTN, the accident took place on October 3, 2018 in the Tibet Autonomous Region, China.

After the boulder hit the car, it did a 360 spin and smoke began pouring out of the engine as more rocks fell.

According to local police, "The incident was an act of nature and nobody was seriously injured," reported CGTN.
