No, This Is Not A Celebration In Balochistan For BJP

A video of supporters accompanying BJP candidate filing his nomination from Anantnag, Jammu & Kashmir is shared as celebrations in Balochistan.

By - BOOM FACT Check Team | 26 May 2019 7:26 AM GMT

A video purporting to show celebrations in Balochistan after the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) landslide victory in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections in India is false.

The video was shot in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir and shows locals accompanying BJP candidate Sofi Yousuf on his way to file his nomination papers.

A similar video was tweeted by the account BJP Jammu & Kashmir - a verified handle- on March 31, 2019.

The text of the tweet states, "amid sloganeering BJP's Anantnag Parliamentary Constituency candidate Sh. Sofi Yousuf accompanied by thousand of supporters including women folk files nomination paper in Anantnag."

However, another clip from the same rally is now being shared with a misleading caption that sarcastically suggests the BJP has opened a branch in Pakistan.

The misleading caption translates to, "BJP has opened its first branch in Pakistan. In India, often Indian traitors wave Pakistani flags, but now (I) feel happy seeing this sight."

Translated from Hindi text -

The video has gone viral on Facebook and Twitter.

The video was earlier debunked by SM Hoaxslayer.

A closer look at the viral video shows BJP candidate Sofi Yousuf can be seen in the video. The photo on the right is from Yousuf's Facebook profile.

BJP candidate Sofi Yousuf can be seen in the video.

Similarly another individual working the crowd by raising slogans can be seen in both videos indicating it is from the same day.
