Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna: Remembering KishoreDa

It's legendary Indian playback singer-actor Kishore Kumar's 85th birthday. Search engine Google paid tribute to him by creating a colourful, smiling doodle page.

 

We bring you some interesting facts about this maverick-genius:

1) Kishore Kumar disliked acting in films. He preferred singing over acting.

 

2) Kishoreda, as he was known as in Bollywood, was also a lyricist, composer, producer, director and script writer.

 

3) He was a loner and did not socialise. He treated his trees as pets and used to converse with them.

 

4) The age difference between his elder brother Ashok Kumar and him was 19 years. So, Ashok Kumar was almost like a father figure for Kishore Kumar.

 

5) Kishoreda idolised K L Saigal and considered him his 'Guru'.

 

6) Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, a 1958 movie, was Kishore Kumar's home production and starred all Ganguly brothers.

 

7) Kishore Kumar married four times. His first wife was Ruma Guha Thakurta, and their marriage lasted from 1950-58. Then he married actress Madhubala but the marriage was strained due to her deteriorating health and she not being a Hindu. His third marriage with Yogita Bali lasted from 1976 to 1978. Kishoreda was married to Leena Chandavarkar from 1980 until his death on Oct 13, 1987

 

8) He won 8 Filmfare awards for best playback singing.

 

9) Internet giant Google paid tribute to late Kishore Kumar on his 85th birthday by creating a colourful, smiling doodle page for him.

From the film Amanush released in 1975. The film starred Sharmila Tagore and Uttam Kumar. Music was composed by Shyamal Mitra. This song had also won the Filmfare best lyricist award for Indeevar.

3) Khaike Pan Banaraswala

This song is from the movie Don released in 1978. The music was composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.

Movie: Thodisi Bewafai. Gulzar penned the lyrics for the song while Khayyam was the music director. Gulzar also received the Filmfare award for this song as best lyricist in 1980

This peppy, energetic song was from the movie Namak Halal. It had Bappi Lahiri's foot-thumping music and lyrics by Anjaan.

R D Burman's mesmerising music in the movie Agar Tum Na Hote won Kishoreda a Filmfare award in 1983.

7) Manzilein Apni Jagah Hain

The soundtrack from the movie Sharabi, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Prada, won the Filmfare best music director award as well as the playback singing award in 1984. Bappi Lahiri had won the best music director award.

8) Saagar Kinaare

This romantic number from the movie Saagar won Kishoreda the Filmfare award for playback singing. The film was released in 1985, and had music by R.D. Burman and lyrics by Javed Akhtar.
