Citizen India: How Do We Tackle Crime Against Women?

By - A Staff Writer | 16 Dec 2014 10:02 AM GMT

Full View

How often do you listen to the big debates, the high-strung arguments and the never-ending parade of experts? And how often do you ask, at the end of it all: am I heard?

Citizen India with Shazia Ilmi is a promise to help you do that. This first-time, YouTube television show will draw attention to your views, your concerns and your desires. By involving you in the conversation. By making your voice heard. By shining the light on issues that are important to you and affect all of us.

Did you know that data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) shows a near 70% jump in crimes against women between the previous decade and the current one? Moreover, there has been a 52% increase in rape cases. And these are just the reported ones. The recent case of an alleged rape of a young finance company professional by a Uber taxi driver in New Delhi has once again highlighted how unsafe our streets are.

We know the problem but do we know the solutions. Do we have a voice in determining them?

In our first episode, we ask the question that has been come back to plague us. Do you think the government is doing enough to ensure women's safety? What changes would you really want to see? What measures would you implement? What can stop these frequent incidents of rape and violence against women?

Write in to Shazia Ilmi expressing your views and your solutions. Send a link to your YouTube video with you talking about issues that really affect you. Or someone you feel has a strong opinion, that deserves to be heard. Send us visuals that will allow us to see matters from your point of view.

Shazia will feature it in Citizen India, launching shortly on Boom.

We look forward to hearing from you soon. Because change involves you too.
