Fake Phase 1 Exit Poll Graphic Predicts Congress In The Lead

Under the provisions of Section 126-A of the Representation of the Peoples Act, 1951 exit polls are banned by the EC

By - Anmol Alphonso | 17 April 2019 8:52 AM GMT

Claim

Times Now Phase 1 Exit Poll for 91 Lok Sabha seats predicts 48 seats for the Congress, 24 for the Bhartiya Janta Party and 19 seats for Others.

Fact

BOOM did not find an exit poll by Times Now for the Phase 1 Lok Sabha seats on which voting was conducted on April 11, 2019. Additionally, the Election Commission Of India (ECI) has banned exit polls between April 11, 2019 (first phase of voting) and May 19, 2019 (last phase of voting) till 6.30 pm. BOOM contacted Times Now Editor-in-chief Rahul Shivshankar who denied that the channel had conducted an exit poll. "This is a malicious exercise in fakery. Times Now has not conducted any exit poll. Our channel adheres to the Election Commission’s Code of Conduct," said Shivshankar.
