An edited video of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kangana Ranaut has surfaced with false claims that it shows her blaming the Election Commission of India (ECI) for the opposition’s vote theft allegation.

BOOM found that the video has been edited to omit a segment of the original footage where Ranaut mentions the ECI reprimanding Rahul Gandhi. Thus, making it appear in the viral video as if Ranaut said the ECI insulted the voters. In the video, Ranaut says that the ECI insulted the voters, who in turn were embarrassed and felt humiliated because their names were mentioned. Later in the video, she mentions Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and refers to his recent tussle with the ECI over the vote theft allegation.

The Claim

Several users shared the video with a Hindi caption that translates to, "Vote theft has also angered Kangana Ranaut against the Election Commission. Is Kangana now going to quit the BJP?" (Original Text: वोट चोरी को लेकर कंगना रनौत भी चुनाव आयोग पर भड़की क्या कंगना अब भाजपा छोड़ने वाली है)

What We Found: Kangana Ranaut’s Target Was Rahul Gandhi

Original Video Shared By News Outlets: We first broke the video into keyframes and searched them using Google Lens. This led us to several news reports carrying the original version of Ranaut’s interaction, where the MP from Himachal Pradesh was targeting opposition leader Rahul Gandhi.

In one video by The Indian Express (August 18, 2025) Ranaut is heard saying, "As you can see, the Election Commission has reprimanded Rahul Gandhi yesterday for the way he has insulted the people, insulted the voters and voters whose names were mentioned are also expressing grief in large numbers. They have been insulted a lot in their society. In a way, their respect has been ruined by Rahul Gandhi ji... and the way you can see that after being reprimanded so much yesterday, the drama that he created here today, you can understand from it that if he does not get the power, he will not let the work happen."
