A collage of two videos is circulating online with a false claim that it shows a Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporter being stripped and beaten by a group of Hindus, for saying on camera that he would walk naked in Kolkata if the party lost.

BOOM found that the video of the assault is unrelated to West Bengal. It was recorded in Bangladesh before the announcement of the West Bengal assembly election results on May 4, 2026.

The Claim

Several right-wing handles shared the video on X with a caption claiming that the person who had challenged to walk naked if TMC lost the elections was later found, stripped by the public, and assaulted on the road after the poll results.

What We Found

1. Assault Video Was Recorded Before WB Poll Results: While going through posts carrying the same visual collage, we noticed several users claiming in the comments that the assault video is from Bangladesh. Taking a cue, we ran a related keyword search in Bengali and found the same video in a report by Bangladeshi news outlet Mytv Bangladesh published on April 23, 2026, which predates the announcement of the West Bengal assembly election results.

The report stated that the youth seen in the visuals was attacked over suspicion of being a member of the Bangladeshi student organisation Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir, also referred to as Shibir.

Bangladesh-based news outlet Somoy News reported on April 23, 2026, citing witnesses and sources, that the conflict between student organisations Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chatra Dal and Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir began after a Shibir leader, Abdullah Al Mahmud, was accused of posting an AI-generated offensive image of Zaima Rahman, daughter of Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, on Facebook.

The reporter further added that when Chhatra Dal leaders went to Shahbag police station to lodge a complaint against the Shibir leader, members of both student organisations came face to face there, resulting in clashes.  Jago News, another Bangladeshi news outlet, live-streamed visuals of the conflict between Shibir and Chhatra Dal members in Shahbag on April 23, 2026.

2. The Report From Bengal: We traced the video report uploaded on TNX News’ YouTube channel on April 24, 2026, showing a youth named Sufiyan expressing support for the TMC. In the video, he made the challenge in front of TMC supporters and claimed that the party would secure more than 200 seats in the West Bengal assembly elections.
