A video purportedly showing people gathered around a crashed plane is being circulated on social media with false claims that it is footage from an Indian Air Force (IAF) plane crash in Pune.
BOOM found that the video is unrelated to the IAF and is from August 9, 2026, when a trainer aircraft operated by a private company crash-landed at Baramati Airport in Pune district.
There were two people on board the trainer aircraft, but there have been no reported injuries or fatalities. This was the second such incident at the Baramati airfield. Earlier this year, on January 28, a chartered plane carrying Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others crashed near the Baramati airfield, killing all five people on board.
The Claim:
The one-minute video of the plane crash on an airstrip is being shared, claiming that it shows an IAF plane crash in Pune in which the pilot was injured, further praising Pakistan for 'reaching new heights' while India falls behind.

1) Video from private trainer aircraft crash landing
A reverse image search led BOOM to an X post from Press Trust of India (PTI) which states that the video is of a trainer aircraft operated by a private company that crash-landed at Baramati Airport in Pune district.
2) Incident not related to Indian Air Force
A keyword search led BOOM to news reports of the incident. The private company-operated trainer plane suffered damage after veering off the runway with two people on board at the Baramati airfield on August 9, 2026, but there were no injuries or fatalities. There is no mention of the IAF in these reports.
