A cropped video of Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee is being circulated with a misleading claim that it shows him threatening Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters in West Bengal ahead of the state elections.
In the video, Banerjee can be heard saying in Bengali, "The day Mamata Banerjee and the I.N.D.I.A. Alliance form the government, we will enter the house and beat (you)."
BOOM found that in the larger video Banerjee directed the remarks at Pakistan's Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, in response to his previous comments about India.
Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee came under scrutiny for a series of controversial remarks made during the West Bengal election campaign. After the elections, an FIR was lodged against him, alleging that he made inflammatory statements, issued threats, and sought to disturb public harmony. According to reports, the complaint highlighted Banerjee's statement, "Which godfather from Delhi will come to save you?", made before the elections and seemingly directed at the BJP-led central government.
The Claim
A verified X handle shared the video with the caption, "Remembering that famous THREAT of Criminal, Chor Drama-Artist Abhishek Banerjee (Kingpin of infamous Diamond Harbour Model) -when he loudly asserted to "Thrash & Murder (BJP Supporters) by entering their houses, the day when Mamata Banerjee & INDI alliance's Govt will be formed"!! Yesterday he saw how Divine Justice kisses + also received practical Karmic Lesson."

What We Found: Viral Video Is Cropped
1. Banerjee's Remarks Were Directed to Pakistan's Defence Minister: We first ran a keyword search and found the original speech delivered by Banerjee in Malda, West Bengal, which was uploaded on the official YouTube channel of the Bengali news outlet Ei Samay on April 6, 2026. After reviewing the speech, we found that Banerjee's remarks were not directed to BJP supporters in the state.
From the 10:16 mark onward, Banerjee can be heard saying, "Two days ago, Pakistan's Defence Minister, whose name is Khawaja Asif, said that he would blow up Kolkata. The Prime Minister is silent, the Home Minister is silent, and the Defence Minister is silent. I am noting down Khawaja Asif's name on paper. The day Mamata Banerjee and the I.N.D.I.A. Alliance form the government, we will enter (their) house and beat (them)."
Later in the speech, Banerjee also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that they had failed to respond adequately to threats from Pakistan and Bangladesh.
2. The Context Behind Banerjee's Remarks: Banerjee's comments were made in the backdrop of remarks by Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on April 4, 2026. Speaking to reporters in Sialkot, Pakistan, Asif warned that Pakistan would respond with a strike on Kolkata if India engaged in any "future misadventures." According to The Hindu, Asif said, "If India tries to stage any false flag operation this time, then God-willingly, we will take it to Kolkata".
