A month after Nepal was shattered by two earthquakes, photographer Zishaan Akbar Latif traveled to the Himalayan country to understand the scale of the disaster. He shares his experience through images that make the tragedy palpable and the devastation and the loss deeply personal.

Nepal, the Himalayan country known as the gateway to Mount Everest, saw the first earthquake take the lives of 18 mountaineers. In Kathmandu, as aftershocks continued and with fears of more earthquakes to come, even people with standing homes were living in the open. As I travelled east, the catastrophic impact of the earthquake became even more apparent. In Barpak, where it all began life unceremoniously stopped at 11:56 AM on April 25th 2015.
