Kenyan Government Imposes Lockdown On Kakuma & Dadaab Refugee Camps
The Kenyan government announced a partial lockdown on the Kakuma and Dadaab refugees camps, which are amongst the largest in the world. Most refugeess in these camps are of Somalian or Sudanese origin, and are infamous for overcrowding and malnourishment.The Dadaab camps hosts more than 2,10,000 refugees as of March 31, 2019. Kakuma hosts 1,94,000 refugees.
Following the meeting, and in furtherance of directives to curb the communal spread of COVID-19 across the country, the Government has ordered for the cessation of movement into and out of both Kakuma and Dadaab Refugee Camps effective tomorrow, Wednesday, April 29, 2020. pic.twitter.com/bTHI5EPLFk
