Racial Attacks On Africans On The Rise In India

A Congolese national, Masonda Ketanda Oliver was beaten to death in a brawl in Delhi on May 20. This is not a one-off incident. Another African national was a victim of mob attack after a row erupted over car-parking.

The increasing number of attacks on African nationals has caused an outrage among the community which includes thousands who study in India. The African envoys had last week threatened to boycott the Africa Day event over Oliver's murder. This brings us to a crucial yet disturbing question- Are we racist? Does colourism have any role to play, if at all, in the recent series of attacks over Africans?
