2018 Incident Of Woman Beaten By Husband Over Infidelity Shared With Communal Angle

A disturbing video of a woman being flogged by her in-laws and husband allegedly because of infidelity is viral on social media with a false claim that she was attacked for being a Muslim and carrying meat.

The 50 -second long footage documents a woman being tied up and whipped by a man, as onlookers stare. Given the graphic nature of the video, BOOM has chosen not to include it here.

BOOM also received the footage on its helpline (7700906111) along with the following caption: "Can you imagine the insult when your family woman tied up, tortured humiliated and filmed in public? It worst than getting shot. Modi's Hindu India crimes against a Muslim women carrying meat , this is the worst kind of human rights violation in the world, but whole world media is sleeping fast on these Indian human violations!"

The video is viral on Facebook, with a similar narrative.

Fact Check

BOOM ran a reverse image search on a couple of frames of the video and found that the footage is originally from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, where a woman was flogged by her husband as a "punishment for her alleged infidelity."

A keywords search "woman flogged Bulandshahr" on Google led us to several articles from the incident.

According to the reports on March 10, 2018, a woman was flogged in front of a crowd by her husband on the orders of a village panchayat for having eloped with another man.

Bulandshahr Superintendent of Police Praveen Ranjan Singh told Scroll that "the woman’s husband Shaudan Singh, former panchayat head Shersingh and his son Shravan were arrested, after a video of the assault went viral on social media".

Last week, the same video was viral with false claims that a Muslim woman is being beaten up by "Hindutva (RSS + BJP)". The same was fact checked by The Quint.
