Weightlifting: One Of The Oldest Olympic Sports Explained

Weightlifting, also called Olympic weightlifting, is an athletic discipline which will be one of the most contested sport in 2016 Summer Olympics.

 

 

Weightlifting was part of the first modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896, with women joining in at Sydney 2000. There are eight men’s and eight women’s events.

 

At Sydney Olympics in 2000, India’s Karnam Malleswari became the first woman to win a medal in weightlifting for the country.
