Putin To Visit India On Dec 4–5 For Annual Summit With PM Modi
Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit India from December 4–5 for the 23rd India–Russia Annual Summit and hold talk with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The President of India will also host a state banquet in his honour.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, both sides are expected to review progress in bilateral ties, strengthen the “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership,” and exchange views on key regional and global developments.
This will be Putin’s first visit to India since 2021, when he attended the 21st Annual Summit. During the visit, New Delhi is also expected to press for concerns over the widening trade imbalance created by India’s rising imports of discounted Russian crude oil, according to PTI.
The Kremlin described the visit as highly significant, calling it an opportunity to hold comprehensive discussions on the full spectrum of Russia–India cooperation, Reuters reported.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the possible sale of additional S-400 long-range air defence systems could be discussed during the talks, according to Mint. The two countries are also likely to explore deeper collaboration in civil nuclear energy and other strategic sectors.
